We have had the pleasure and honor of serving on the Board of Directors of an amazing non-profit organization in St. Louis the last several years - SHALOM HOUSE. Shalom House (formerly Metro Homeless Center & Family Services) provides comprehensive services to chronically homeless women in St. Louis. These programs include a 25-bed Emergency Shelter and a 12-bed Transitional Housing program. We are also launching a new Permanent Supportive Housing program in 2010 as part of a new HUD grant. All of our programs include supportive professional services designed to rebuild and stabilize our resident's lives, specifically Occupational Therapy, Substance Abuse Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing Care, Case Management and Pastoral Care services. Shalom House is very unique in that our staff works one-on-one with residents to help them address the primary issues that have caused them to become homeless and develops a holistic plan to help them return to independent and product living.
Shalom House serves over 400 women annually and has a long list of client success stories. In fact, over the past 5 years 97% of our clients who have moved into permanent housing after our program REMAIN housed at this time.
